Bodybuilding Cardio – Muscle and Fighting

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

Cardiovascular exercise is kind of hard to talk about, from one hand too much of it will make it hard to build new muscle on your body and on the other hand you need it because it will help you get more oxygen into your muscles increasing your performance and burn flab off your body.

Whine about it if you want but unless you are on drugs you must do some running or cycling if you want to get into bodybuilding.

You also get the benefit of strengthening your heart.

Escalating Intensity Progression

What do the above words mean? its a type of cardio exercise that is short and effective.

So here is what you do: you should take 10 minutes before you start lifting, you should increase the intensity every minute, if you are on a treadmill you have to set the intensity to go higher on it every minute until you are running so hard that you can’t talk.

You can also do it by jogging but you must keep track of how much you are pushing yourself which is not recommended for beginners as they tend to go easy on themselves without realizing it.

After the 10 minutes are over you have gotten the oxygen circulating through your body and are ready to hit the weights.

Boxing And Bodybuilding

If you are wondering, “will boxing help me build muscle?”, the answer is no.

Why? Well boxing is a very aerobic sport, if you take a look at boxing legend Muhammad Ali you’ll notice he was not very big compared to say, Dexter “The Blade” Jackson.

Training for fights and training for bodybuilding are completely different ways of training, if you want to build more muscle you need to focus on weights more, if you want to focus on Boxing or MMA you will need to focus more on doing drills on the heavy bag and more importantly sparring with a partner.

Guys who are bigger generally make better wrestlers (no I’m not talking about that WWE stuff) but are not very good at cardio like runners.

So its up to you to choose what to focus on.

I personally think that there must be a balance between the two extremes.

Classic Bodybuilding Secrets of the Great Legends

Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

A long long time ago, way back before the multi-million supplement industry existed, back when it was illegal to walk around outside without a big mustache, guys like Eugene Sandow and Charles Atlas were getting stared at with awe by people around them.

Back then we didn’t have whey protein, steroids or the Ab Extender 9000 (buy now and save 50%), yet there were people who gained muscle without all of that stuff.

Classic bodybuilding or old-school bodybuilding is the best way to describe what those old-timey guys did, today’s bodybuilding seems to have all these “breakthroughs” that sucker everyone into buying all this pointless junk.

“Buy My Stuff”

It seems that today the main focus of those big companies is to fill people’s “needs” instead of educating them, I have studied a bit of marketing lately and according to what I’ve learned the best way to make money is to find a group of people who have some sort of desire or need, and sell them what they want.

While in my opinion it certainly is possible to help a lot of people this way, most people don’t really know what they really need, we tend to believe that there is some secret method to build muscle that the pros are hiding from us(kind of contradicts the title doesn’t it), the big companies know this and take advantage of us instead of teaching us the truth and we believe them.

The Old-Timey Guys

Eugene Sandow is considered “Father of Modern Bodybuilding”, at first he appeared in stage shows in which he posed, he then opened one of the first gyms, he started the first ever bodybuilding Competitions in which he was a judge and he taught people about muscle building and how to do it.

Back then there could not possibly have been a big secret that caused classic bodybuilders to get bigger because there were no supplements or high tech devices.

Most of the real breakthroughs were made back then, the same exercises, like barbell curls that we do today were revolutionary back then, most of today’s stuff is more evolutionary, you do stimulate the same muscle with the ab rollout equipment as with crunches, don’t you?

Today you might see an ad on how to gain 20 lbs in a month with this magic powder and believe that its possible, I mean it says so in the magazine why would it not be true, right? Most magazines are owned by big supplement companies by the way.

Fast muscle Gains

It took the Eugene years to get the way he was just as it would take years for someone to gain muscle today, even with all the supplements that exist today.

It is possible to actually make great gains when you first start out, your body is forced to adapt rapidly to the new tension that you are putting on it but it still takes a certain amount of time, you don’t get big biceps by doing curls for a day.

Some guys make large gains in their first time, others don’t, what separates the people who make great gains from the losers is that they stick to it, they keep working out even if they did not get very big at first, the losers don’t.

Conclusion

The real secret that the great legends knew is that you need to stick to the basics, back in the late 1890s no one could possibly know how these guys were gaining muscle.

Today we have the internet, which basically gives us access to ALL the bodybuilding info (and beyond) that we need for FREE. You don’t need to take any effort to look for what to do, all you must do is start working out.
